Throughout the year, student work is selected for display and consideration for the Art Exhibits that the Proviso West HS Art Department enters. As a department and during classes, the best of the best work is selected to be entered in several art shows/competitions on the students behalf. Most of the competitions take place during second semester but is open to all students who take Digital Photo.
As a department, due to the recent downsizing, the art shows we still participate in are:
Northern Illinois University high School Art Exhibit in October and November.
-This is a judged show where three artists are awarded the top three places. Proviso West’s two selected participants will be invited to a workshop on the day of the Exhibit opening and award ceremony (TBA). This show takes place during the months of October or November (TBA).
Elmhurst College Annual High School Art Exhibit in January.
-This is a judged show where artists are awarded ribbons and the Seniors have the chance to win a partial scholarship to the Art College at Elmhurst College. All participants, as selected by the art instructors, will be awarded a certificate of participation. This show takes place during the months of January and February.
Danny K. Davis Annual High School Art Competition in May.
-This is a judged show and the department enters our 10 best artworks as judged by the art department. The participants are honored at a reception at the United Center, where each participant is awarded a certificate of participation and a small prize. The top artworks will receive larger prizes in different amounts while the top winner will receive a Laptop computer, a color printer, two round trip tickets to Washington D.C., a two day stay at a prestigious Washington D. C. hotel, a framed certificate and their winning work framed and hung in the hallways of the Capitol Building for a year, along with all the other winners from around the nation. Selection for this show takes place at during March/April.
Triton College Visual Communications High School Art Exhibit in April and May. CANCELLED FOR 2018 DUE TO A LACK OF FUNDING!!!
-This is a judged show where artists are awarded trophies/ribbons in Leveled areas of Communication Arts media. Participants will be invited to an award ceremony (TBA). This show takes place during the month of April.
1st Annual Digital Photo Art Competition in April and May. (Begun in 2018!!!)
-This is a judged show where artists are awarded certificates based upon the rankings by the Proviso West faculty, staff and administration. Participants will be awarded a certificate for being selected to be part of the competition and awards certificates will be awarded to the photos will the most votes from the entire competition. This competition takes place starting in the month of April and will end at the start of May.
